THE STORY
Kavun is Turkish for melon. Put two on a table, push them together until they pinch, and you have the plan of this sofa.
Two swelling volumes meet at a narrow waist; the tops are hollowed into seats and the inner curve runs unbroken from one end to the other. That continuous inner surface is the reason it cannot be an upholstered frame — fabric over timber would have to break at the waist. So the shell is moulded first as one form, and the seat pans drop in afterwards. Cushions are optional. Most clients order them; a few keep the bare shell, because at 2.4 metres the shell alone is the statement.
Indoor piece, 72 kilograms, satin or gloss. It sits in a room the way a boulder sits in a stream: the room moves around it.
WHY FIBERGLASS
The pinched waist and continuous inner curve cannot be upholstered over a frame — it is moulded, then the seat pans drop in.
